Martin Luther King As Art

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the U.S. which happens to actually fall on his birthday this year. Scrolling through Instagram this morning, it’ inspiring and beautiful to see so many brilliant artists creating their own visions and interpretations of MLK. It's worth taking a minute to consider Martin Luther Kings use of art and media during the civil rights movement. He may not have created political paintings but he did use his words - and words as art are powerful. Think about it, we’re still quoting “I Have A Dream” and by now, for many of us, it rolls off our tongues in a melodically. We all become poets and orators when we quote MLK.

Here’s an image from my favorite MLK art this year by Watson Mere! You can get your print at his website, www.ArtOfMere.com. The message is so powerful, yet simplistic, I’ve shared it on both of my Instagram Profiles, instagram.com/daisijo and instagram.com/daisijoreviews hopefully to inspire my followers.
